Choose from several walking trails, which weave through native forest and grassland to scenic waterfalls and mountain summits in the Koroyanitu National Heritage Park.
Along the way lookout for native birdlife such as the black-faced shrike bill, the endangered peregrine falcon and the masked shining parrot.
Six native villages in the park maintain the walking tracks and provide basic overnight accommodation for visitors. The park is also known as Abaca National Heritage Park, Nase Lodge and Mt. Batilamu.
Hike from Nase Lodge to the summit of Castle Rock and be rewarded with panoramic vistas over the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands; allow five hours including the return hike. There is also a two-hour hike that takes in a waterfall and the terraced gardens at the villages of Tunutunu and Navuratu.
From Navilawa village you can take a full-day hike to Mount Batilamu, which offers splendid views over Nadi Bay; while a full-day hike to Mt Koroyanitu takes in the remains of a fortified village.
Koroyanitu National Heritage Park is located in the mountains, of Viti Levu, around 15km southeast of Lautoka.
