Best time to visit Syros

The best time to visit Syros, also known as Siros or Syra, for a beach holiday is during July and August.

However, anytime from mid-May through June, and the first two weeks of September are also good to visit Syros – the excessive summer heat has passed, the sea is still warm, the crowds have mostly left and all the facilities are still open.

July and August are the peak summer months, when Syros has the most visitors and prices sky-rocket.

Syros enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, sunny summers and cool, wet winters. The island is windy year-round.

The cool and refreshing sea breeze - the Meltemi – is fairly consistent throughout summer, but is especially strong during July and August.

The breeze keeps the temperatures lower than elsewhere in the Aegean, with the maximum temperature in Syros rarely higher than 30°C (86°F).

Summer, from June to mid-September, is warm and sunny, but also windy.

Holiday seasons

High season: July and August, when hotel and restaurant prices sky-rocket.

Low season: From March to June – the temperature is cooler, hotel prices are more reasonable and the crowds non-existent.

Note: The winter off-season, from November through February, is generally quiet everywhere; many hotels, restaurants and bars close down and the beaches are deserted. Ferry and air services are dramatically reduced.
