Best time to visit Morocco

The best time to visit Morocco is spring (mid-March to May) and autumn (September to November). However, summer is the best time to explore the High Atlas and winter is best time to explore the Sahara Desert.

Morocco’s weather follows the country’s geography: the narrow coastal region receives a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, the mountains and high plateaus see cold, wet winters with occasional flash flooding in winter and spring, and the desert region receives hot, arid conditions.

Northwest Morocco: Summer temperatures in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca average a high of 20°C (68°F) in June and September with 23°C (73°F) in August peaking around 27°C (80°F). Winter sees a daily high of 18°C (64°F) and a low of 8°C (46°F). Spring and autumn average 21°C (70°F).

Southwest Morocco: Summer temperatures reach a daily average high of 26°C (79°F) from May to November, and an average high of 22°C (71°F) in winter from December to April.

The Moroccan Sahara: Daytime temperatures generally average 35°C (59°F) but often peak at 45°C (59°F)s.

Agadir weather

The best time to visit Agadir for a beach holiday is during the summer months from July to mid-September, when you can expect long, sunny days with clear skies and an average high temperature of 28°C (82°F).

However, anytime from late-April to mid-September is a good time to visit Agadir for general outdoor activities.

Agadir is considered a year-round holiday destination, given it's pleasantly mild winter.

Agadir has a hot, semi-arid temperate climate. A cold current flows along the Atlantic coast of Morocco, which makes the climate very mild, but can also create fogs and low clouds, especially during the warmest months. When the desert wind blows, temperatures usually increase dramatically.

Holiday seasons

High season: Summer from July to September, and Islamic holidays

Islamic holidays are influenced by the lunar-based Islamic, or hejira, calendar, which is around 11 days shorter than the Western Gregorian calendar and began in the year AD 579, when the Prophet Mohammed was born.

Note: Non-Muslim travellers may wish to avoid Morocco during the month-long fast of Ramadan, when cafés and almost all restaurants are closed during the day.

Source: Meteorological data for Morocco is based on weather statistics gathered for the period 1991 to 2020, and is sourced from the nearest weather station for each destination.

Advice on the best time to visit a particular destination is based on average local weather statistics, when the weather conditions are generally better than at other times of the year. We consider high and low temperatures, risk of rain (and thunderstorms, etc.), amount of sunshine and sea temperature. For general outdoor activities we favour clear, rainless days with a temperature range between 18°C (64°F) and 27°C (80°F); and for hot-weather activities we favour clear, rainless days with a temperature range between 24°C (75°F) and 32°C (89°F). Often, the best times to visit correspond to high season and therefore involve higher prices.
