Skiathos – the most visited of the Sporades Islands – is located in the Aegean Sea, southeast of the Pelion Peninsula in northern Greece.

One of Greece’s premier resort island groups, the Sporades Islands are comprised of Skopelos, Skiros, Alonnissos and Skiathos, plus a number of smaller islands.

The most convenient route to Skiathos is by air to Skiathos International Airport (JSI), located about 4.5km (2.7mi) from Skiathos Town.

Skiathos Island Airport is located to the northeast of the island, about 4.5km (2.7mi) from Skiathos city. Taxis operate from the airport terminal.


Entry requirements

A passport valid for at least six months beyond intended period of stay, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days.


Getting around

Apart from walking, you can hop on a bus or hire a car or moped.

A frequent bus service operates from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries Beach along the south coast, five times an hour during the summer peak season. Several other bus routes cover the island including to the Monastery of Evangelistria and to Xanemos on the north coast with up to six round trips daily, both operated using mini-buses.

North coast beaches and adjacent islands can also be reached by caique.
