Unwind on the golden sand of Deauville’s main beach and perhaps engage in some celebrity spotting – Deauville is a popular weekend and holiday destination for trendy Parisiennes. In fact, Deauville is often referred to as the 21st arrondissement (region) of Paris.
Stroll along the elegant Promenade des Planches, a 643m-long wooden boardwalk made of exotic hardwood that faces Deauville’s main beach and is backed by picturesque Beaux Arts and half-timbered Norman-inspired buildings.
Change into a swimsuit in a charming old-world wooden cabin then sunbathe on the golden sands or relax in the shade of one of the brightly coloured parasols that line the wide 1400m-long beach.
While the water is bracing – even in summer – you may, instead, want to engage in some celebrity spotting. Access to the beach is free, as is the case throughout the Normandy coastline.
Facilities include a swimming pool, Thalasso spa, tennis courts and a recreation club for children. The beachfront Centre Nautique – a water sports centre – offers sailboats, catamarans, sea kayaks, surfboards and wind and kite surfing equipment for hire. Horses are available for hire on the beach at the nearby Pony Club.
