Protaras Honeymoon Guide

This friendly beach resort boasts one of the island’s best beaches at Fig Tree Bay. While further north lies a choice of secluded coves and inlets for those honeymoon couples wanting more privacy.

Protaras is located on the southeast coast of Cyprus between Cape Greco and the village of Paralimni.

The resort is also home to a lengthy seaside promenade perfect for sunset strolls and a smorgasbord of open-air seafood restaurants, nightclubs, disco bars and pubs.

And if you want to party-on into the small hours of the morning, Cyprus' renowned party capital of Ayia Napa is just 16km (10 miles) away.

What to do and see in Protaras

Climb up to the tiny Ayios Ilias Church, which overlooks the resort from a 100m-high hill and be rewarded with spectacular scenic views of Protaras and the coastline – especially beautiful in spring when the cliff tops are covered in wild flowers.

Go hiking, cycling and horseback riding in the beautiful Cavo Greko National Forest Park, which offers lush forest, impressive cliff top views, rocky outcrops, secluded bays and dramatic sea caves. The latter are best explored on a boat trip.

Check out Larnaca's 17th-century Turkish fort and the attractive orthodox St Lazurus Church. Then visit excavations revealing Larnaca's ancient history as far back as the 13th century BC at the Kition Archaeological Site.

Protaras Beach

Unwind on the fine, golden sand of one of Cyprus’s best beaches that is perfect for sunbathing, swimming and pursuing a variety of watersports from paddle boats to jet skis.

Located in the popular town of Paralimni, the beach is also known as Fig Tree Bay, and takes its name from a single, solitary fig tree that has been there since the 17th century.

Facilities on the beach include toilets, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas and water sports facilities, with a variety of accommodation, restaurants and food kiosks nearby.

The beach also offers disabled access, including a special wheelchair at the lifeguard tower to help disabled persons enter the sea with assistance from the lifeguards. Lifeguards are stationed at the beach from April to September.

Best time to visit Protaras

The best time to visit Protaras for a beach holiday is from early-June through to early-October, when you can expect hot, sunny weather with clear blue skies and little or no rainfall.

To explore the nearby Greco-Roman ruins and Byzantine monasteries, the best time is spring and early summer, from late-April to mid-June, and during autumn, from late-September to late-October, thereby avoiding the intense summer heat and high season crowds.
