Plage de la Gravette

Plage de Juan les Pins

In nearby Juan les Pins, this narrow, 2km-long golden-sand beach is divided into many sections that are a mix of both public, private and hotel run beaches, all shelving gently into a large bay.

The palm-tree fringed beach offers numerous hotels, cafés and restaurants all within easy walking distance of the beach. For clean golden sand, try the beach section opposite the Garden Beach Hotel or Hotel Belles Rives.

What to do and see in Antibes

Explore the narrow traffic-free streets and pretty squares of the historic Old Town. From the medieval ramparts, marvel at the huge super-yachts moored below on ‘Millionaires' Quay' in Port Vauban.

Then stroll inside the 16th century Fort Carré and visit the Cathedral d’Antibes, built on the site of an ancient Greek temple and noted for its 12th century bell tower.

At the Musé Picasso in the Chateau Grimaldi, admire a sublime collection of Picasso's paintings, lithographs, drawings and ceramics, all done when he lived and worked at the museum in 1946 perfect for art-loving honeymoon couples.

Out of town, see more than 1600 species of plants in the stunning 3.5ha gardens of the Ville Thuret. Stroll the 11ha landscape park at Villa Eilenroc, one of the most beautiful villas located on Cap d’Antibes and check out the charming Chapelle de la Garoupe, which sits near Le Cap d'Antibes.

From here you can enjoy panoramic views along the coast and walk along a 2.7km-long Sentier de Littoral, a coastal pathway from Plage de la Garoupe to Cap Gros, the cape's south-easternmost tip.

Best time to visit Antibes

The best months to visit Antibes (and the French Riviera) are during May, June and September when it’s still warm, around 27°C (81°F).

And you have the opportunity to avoid the crowds, noise, traffic jams, high prices and scorching heat of July and August when temperatures often soar beyond 35°C (95°F).

The French Mediterranean coast has the driest climate in France, with the most rain falling in spring and autumn.

Getting to Antibes

Antibes is located in southeastern France on the Côte d'Azur between Cannes and Nice.

Situated on the east coast of Cap d’Antibes, Antibes is around 2.5km (1.5mi) from Juan-les-Pins, 16km (10mi) to the east of Cannes and 20km (12mi) to the southwest of Nice.

The most convenient route to Antibes is by air to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE), located 7km (4mi) southwest of Nice city centre, and about 20km (12mi) to northeast of Antibes, a 20 minute car or taxi ride.

Alternatively, high-speed TGV rail services to and from Gare d'Antibes, the town's main railway station: offer connections to Nice, Cannes, Marseille, Paris and several other destinations. Paris to Antibes is about 5 hours 50 minutes.

Known as the Côte d’Azur in France, the French Riviera stretches for around 160km (99mi) along the southern Mediterranean coast of France, from St Tropez to St Jean-Cap Ferrat, along the way encompassing the elegant resorts of Cannes, Cap d'Antibes, Juan les Pins and Nice.
