Peak season: August – the driest month of the year – and from 20th December to 9th January to coincide with the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Peak season bustles with an overload of tourists – accommodation is nearly double the usual rates, restaurants are packed, shopkeepers drive hard bargains and the roads are heavily congested.
High season: Chinese New Year, Easter week, July and first two weeks of September. Accommodation is difficult to find and almost as expensive as peak season.
Low season: 10th January to 30th June (excluding high season holidays); 16th September to 19th December. Low season offers good deals on accommodations and dinner reservations are easily booked.
